In the context of the new curriculum reform,the 2022 edition of the Physics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education puts forward the core literacy of secondary school physics,which mainly contains four aspects: physical concepts,scientific thinking,scientific investigation and scientific attitudes and responsibilities.As one of the core literacies of secondary school physics,scientific inquiry is also an indispensable ability for students in the learning process,thus how to cultivate students’ ability of scientific inquiry in physics is in line with the requirements of the current new curriculum reform.The PBL(Problem-Based Learning)teaching model is a problem-based approach to teaching,in which students analyse problems through cooperative learning,collect evidence,analyse and discuss them,and ultimately solve them.The purpose is to develop students’ abilities in the process of problem solving.This study is based on the development of students’ core literacy,and takes the development of students’ ability to investigate in physical science as a breakthrough,and introduces the PBL teaching mode into junior high school physics teaching.Through literature search,the author finds that there are many studies on the PBL teaching model and many studies on the development of students’ scientific inquiry skills,but few studies combine the two together.Therefore,this study will investigate the impact of the PBL model on the development of junior high school students’ physical science inquiry skills based on the PBL model.This study enriches the case base of instructional design for developing students’ physical science inquiry skills based on the PBL teaching model.A detailed theoretical analysis of the PBL teaching model is presented,combining the requirements for developing students’ scientific inquiry skills with the characteristics of junior high school physics teaching,and the content and methods of developing students’ scientific inquiry skills are clearly indicated in each aspect of the PBL teaching model.In this study,theoretical and practical research is carried out on the theme of developing junior high school students’ scientific investigation skills based on the PBL teaching model.In terms of theoretical research,studies on the PBL teaching mode and scientific investigation ability at home and abroad were reviewed,analysed and collated to clarify how the current research status and results are relevant and instructive to this study,and to define the concepts of the PBL teaching mode and scientific investigation ability.The questionnaire and interview methods were used to analyse the current situation of junior high school students’ scientific investigation ability,to identify the current problems and to analyse the causes of the problems,and to identify experimental and control classes based on the results of the pre-test.Based on the principles of the PBL teaching mode and the flow of teaching activities,a teaching design based on the PBL teaching mode to develop junior high school students’ ability to investigate in physics was constructed;the practical teaching was carried out according to the constructed teaching design,and the students’ performance in the process of teaching practice was observed and recorded.A questionnaire was used to post-test the experiment at the end of the practice,and the experimental data were analysed to test the differences between the experimental class and the control class,and it was found that the experimental class had improved in all six dimensions of scientific investigation ability after the experiment.The conclusions reached are as follows:1.The use of the PBL teaching model can improve students’ ability to conduct physical science investigations.After implementing PBL teaching in their teaching practice,students in the experimental class improved in the six dimensions of asking physical questions,conjecturing and hypothesising,designing experiments and formulating solutions,acquiring and processing information,drawing conclusions based on evidence and explaining and communicating them,and evaluating and reflecting on them,indicating that the PBL teaching mode has a facilitating effect on the development of students’ scientific investigation skills.2.The teaching design cases based on PBL teaching mode to cultivate junior high school students’ ability of scientific investigation in physics are operable and effective in junior high school physics teaching.The practical cases enrich the junior high school physics teaching case library,provide reference for frontline teachers’ research in this area,and also facilitate frontline teachers who can examine the teaching design with new perspectives in teaching.
