Scientific inquiry ability is specified as a kind of ability which should be developed for middle school students in the new curriculum standard. It is very important to improve the creative ability of students. Students will have more keen innovation consciousness and creative ability for development, which is the fundamental motivation for the development of a country. Through the process of inquiry development, the capacity of thinking and solving problems of students will be improved greatly. And their philosophical speculations will be improved also. Scientific development is based on the development of physics. Physicists gradually establish a scientific system conjecture in the process of exploring the unknown world. Physics history recorded the investigation process of the unknown world for physicists. It contains the whole process of the physicists’ thought and exploration, rigorous speculation and innovation solution method of the problem. More importantly, it records literacy of the rigorous attitude, seeking truth from fact, not afraid of failure to pursuit truth for scientists. All the elements of developing scientific inquiry ability can be found in the history of physics. So the teaching of history of physics to the students plays a key role in the development of scientific inquiry ability. In this presentation, the history of physics influence degree on the scientific inquiry ability development for middle school students is studied. The effect of understanding and using of scientific inquiry method, grasping of scientific idea, the experimental operation skill and scientific attitude on the development of scientific inquiry ability is also discussed. On conclusion, we summarize an effective teaching mode to cultivate students’ scientific inquiry ability through the history of physics teaching in middle school.
