| With the continuous development of media technology,the phenomenon of older people using the internet is becoming more and more common,and the embedding of social short videos provides them with a stage for self-presentation.On the Douyin short video platform,a group of silver-haired internet celebrities have emerged.They record their lives,express themselves,make friends and interact through short videos,shape their own image,and in the process,reconstruct their self-identity.Based on Goffman’s theory of self-presentation,dramaturgy theory,and Giddens’ theory of self-identity,this article uses content analysis and interviews to delve into the silver-haired internet celebrity group and explore their background and motives for self-presentation on the Douyin short video platform,the content and features of their self-presentation "frontstage," and the construction of their self-identity during the self-presentation process.Finally,the article reflects on the current situation and challenges facing this group’s self-presentation.The research is divided into four parts.First,based on previous observations and interviews,the article analyzes the background and motives of silver-haired internet celebrities using short videos for self-presentation,suggesting that they mainly use the platform to strengthen their self-esteem,fulfill emotional needs,and pursue economic incentives.Second,the article conducts a detailed analysis of the frontstage behavior of silver-haired internet celebrities,identifying the diverse content presented in their short videos and the various ways they shape their media image,including the use of online avatars,nicknames,personal profiles,narrative styles,and scene design.This ultimately leads to the creation of their self-presentation image and expression.The third part analyzes the path of self-identity construction and differentiated self-presentation and differentiation of silver-haired internet celebrities.The article argues that the individual’s self-awareness,social interactions,confirmation of self-worth in comparison,self-role positioning,and the production of meaning in real-world practices are all part of the self-identity construction process.On the Douyin platform,silver-haired internet celebrities perform differentiated self-presentation based on their different motives,and this leads to differentiated self-identity.Finally,the article analyzes the current situation and problems of silver-haired internet celebrities’ self-presentation,and proposes corresponding strategies from multiple perspectives,including individuals,platforms,and institutions. |
