Since the 1950 s,shrinking cities have gradually become an urban problem of widespread concern. In the process of rapid urbanization in China, certain regions or cities have also begun to face urban shrinkage dilemmas such as population loss, economic decline, and weakened urban vitality. As the national strategy advances, the strategic position of the Sichuan-Chongqing area becomes increasingly prominent, but in this process attention must be paid to the problem of urban shrinkage brought about by uneven development and unreasonable resource allocation, etc. In the Key Tasks of New Urbanization Construction and Urban-Rural Integration Development released by the National Development and Reform Commission for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020,it is pointed out that "shrinking cities should The issue of shrinking cities and their resilience is very necessary to explore how to promote it practically. This thesis takes the whole area of Sichuan-Chongqing area as the research object, including 21 cities in Sichuan Province and 38 districts and counties in Chongqing City, totaling 59 cities.Firstly,we use the literature research method to summarize the current situation of domestic and international research on shrinking cities and urban resilience and related theories to lay the foundation for the subsequent research.Secondly, the shrinkage model and the city vitality index model are used to identify shrinking cities in the Sichuan-Chongqing area from two dimensions of population and city vitality, and to classify the shrinkage types. Then,we measure the urban resilience level of shrinking cities, select 16 indicators from four subsystems of economy, society, ecology and urban construction to build a comprehensive index system for measuring the resilience of shrinking cities, obtain the comprehensive evaluation value based on the entropy value method, classify the resilience level and analyze the interaction with the shrinkage type. Finally, the obstacle degree model is used to diagnose the main obstacle subsystems and obstacle factors affecting the development of resilience in shrinking cities. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)There are 30 shrinking cities in SichuanChongqing area, accounting for 50.85% of the total shrinking cities,of which 63.33%are in the Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle;66.67%,10.00%,and23.33% of the population shrinkage type, vitality shrinkage type, and populationvitality double shrinkage type, respectively;mainly distributed in the central and eastern regions of Sichuan-Chongqing,and Chongqing city has a higher density of shrinkage nuclei than Sichuan province is higher.(2)The overall level of resilience of contracting cities in Sichuan-Chongqing area is low,the level of resilience in Sichuan Province is generally higher than that in Chongqing City, and the cities in the economic circle are generally higher than those in the periphery;the balanced development of the four subsystems of urban economy, society, ecology and urban construction is insufficient, and the social resilience and urban construction resilience become the short board of development;the level of coupling of the four subsystems is good, while the coordination and coupling degree have a large gap,and good coupling degree Good coupling does not mean a high level of coordination, and the resilience system of cities in the economic circle with higher comprehensive resilience has better coordination, while the southeast and northeast regions of Chongqing are basically out of tune or on the verge of being out of tune, indicating that the more severe the contracting cities are,the lower the urban resilience and the more uneven the system coupling and coordination.(3)The social and urban construction system has the largest resilience barrier degree, followed by the economic system and ecosystem;the main barrier factors are the number of beds in hospitals and health institutions,R&D funding input intensity, the number of cell phone year-end subscribers, fixed asset investment, general government budget revenue, the number of people with higher education per100,000 people, and GDP per capita.
