Rationality is a unique trait that distinguishes man from other animals.Man regulates and controls his behavior under the role of rational thinking and pursues the true meaning of truth and goodness.In order to,better analyze the evolution of modern society,Weber divided the rationality of humans in social action into value rationality and instrumental rationality.Value rationality drives people to consciously accept the call of ideal beliefs and move toward value goals regardless of gains and losses;instrumental rationality,on the other hand,takes precision and efficiency as the guide for action and helps people to achieve maximum utility.The achievements of modern society could not have been achieved without the guidance of both instrumental and value rationality.However,in the long course of social development,value rationality has shown a trend of loss and diminution,and the expansion of instrumental rationality and the paranoia of value rationality itself has led value rationality to gradually fall into a dilemma,which also exists in ideological and political education.Value rationality in ideological and political education is directed towards the subject of ideological and political education and activities involved,which has the inherent characteristics of purpose,subjectivity,transcendence,and history.These characteristics determine that the ideological and political education process should be centered on human subjectivity,guiding the education subject to reveal human essence and achieve comprehensive human development in the critique and construction of social reality.However,the deviation of value rationality in ideological and political education has produced different degrees of misguidance on the purpose,nature,content,and mode of education,which in turn has led ideological and political education into the dilemma of weakening political consciousness,suppressing subject consciousness,obscuring ideological values and neglecting materialistic teaching.The practice has proved that ideological and political work has both characteristics and advantages in China and is the lifeline of all work.Ideological and political education is the important task of forging the soul and educating people and establishing moral education.Based on this,the value rationality of ideological and political education must be re-examined and analyzed to help value rationality get out of the dilemma and realize the return.The return of value rationality in ideological and political education should jump out of the empty thinking stereotype and find the way out and answer in the interweaving of theory and reality.Taking theory as the key,Marx has built a bridge from reality to ideal for the return of value rationality in the doctrine of human development,practical view and criticism of capitalist social relations of production;taking behavior as the source,digging the light of value rationality hidden in ideological and political education activities in different historical stages in the past.To get out of the dilemma of value rationality in ideological and political education,we should establish rationality as the first premise,secondly pay attention to the coordinated development of value rationality and instrumental rationality,and finally adhere to the objective law of ideological and political education with "people" as the purpose,so as to realize the harmonious unity between the educational subject and social needs."Regression" means the restoration and better transcendence.The deviation of value rationality causes human beings to be lost in the spiritual world and fall into the mechanical and pragmatic one-way dimension of life in the infinite expansion of things.In order to solve this problem,the return of value rationality in ideological and political education is first of all to break the old limitations and return to the original.Break the confinement of stereotypical educational thinking,change the limitations of utilitarian,dehumanizing ideological and political education,and return to the original intention of people-oriented education;second is to explore new breakthroughs and improve.With the return of value rationality as the base,ideological and political education can better promote equality of personality,deeper exploration of the inner potential of the subject,and guide the educated to realize their own value and complete personal development in their contribution to the country and society.The ideal state required by modern society should be the same as the purpose of value selection and tool use.Facing the intelligent information technology era,the modernization of education is on the verge of an arrow,and the return of value rationality will broaden the humanistic perspective and strengthen humanistic care for the discipline development of ideological and political education.Standing on the height of human community,the value rationality of ideological and political education will also revive people’s thinking about the ultimate care of life and grasp
