As a leading brand in the short video platform field,Tiktok’s open and grassroots characteristics have encouraged more and more people to become personal dissemination nodes on the platform.Empowerment in information and new media technologies has given women more opportunities to speak out,and different groups of women have presented different images and features on Tiktok than in the past.As the 15 th largest minority group in China, the Bai ethnic group has its own language, clothing, religion, and cultural systems. In the past, impressions of Bai women or rural Bai women from the media came mostly from official news reports. The low threshold and ease of use of short videos provide new entertainment opportunities and opportunities for Bai rural women, giving them a chance to choose to present a more diverse and three-dimensional female image. This article focuses on Bai rural women in Tiktok short videos, and uses the theories of Henri Lefebvre’s Landscape Socialism,Daniel Dayan’s Media Visibility, and Michel Foucault’s Other Gaze to analyze how they present themselves and produce content through subjective initiative and self-awareness.Through content analysis, keywords were sampled and filtered from the videos published by Bai rural women on Tiktok, and 274 valid samples were analyzed to identify the characteristics and types of video content created by Bai rural women.Based on this,a survey questionnaire and interview outline were designed specifically for Bai rural women to analyze the current state of Bai cultural dissemination, the use of cultural symbols, the impact of self-identity on creation, and to identify existing problems in the image dissemination process. The analysis revealed that the image of Bai rural women presented in Tiktok short videos highlighted the characteristics of ethnic minorities and recorded religious rituals in the dissemination process. The positive and conservative image was conveyed through a focus on recording daily life, displaying physical skills, and presenting diverse images. With the decoding of minority elements as a new way of attracting traffic through a series of short video races,Bai rural women can break through barriers in dissemination. Moreover, the development of media technology has simplified the technical operation process, while female selfawareness is constantly awakening, and the identification of self-identity among Bai rural women is driving the presentation of the image of Bai rural women on Tiktok. However,it was also found that the image of Bai rural women in Tiktok short videos is subject to objectification of female identity in the dissemination process, and some videos focus on sensory stimulation to grab the audience’s attention. While Bai rural women have a certain degree of identity recognition and strong autonomy in the dissemination process, the content of Bai cultural dissemination is insufficient.More often, imitation is done under the influence of traffic. The use of minority cultural symbols is limited to clothing and dialects, and the shooting of folk customs is limited to recording and lacks the educational aspect. Therefore, the author suggests strengthening the media literacy education of Bai rural women. From the platform level, quality content should be supported, and official accounts should collaborate with quality personal accounts to promote mainstream values, integrate excellent traditional culture with minority culture, and promote the image of Bai rural women on Tiktok in a positive and healthy way.
