Abstract/Summary:
BackgroundWith the acceleration of population aging and urbanization process in China, population mobility presents the characteristics of "family migration".The number of the migrant elderly following children(MEFC)to other places is increasing. The "double migrating condition" of physical and mental, and the "double vulnerable group"of migrating and elderly, make it difficult for them in their later years. The Fifth Plenum of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China clearly put forward the "implementation of the national strategy to actively respond to the aging population".Chinese President Xi Jinping’s stressed that the concept of active aging and healthy aging should be integrated into the whole process of social and economic development. It can be seen that the issue of the MEFC is not only related to family harmony and social stability, but also to the overall situation of national development.Life satisfaction is an important indicator of subjective well-being.The study on the current situation and influencing factors of life satisfaction of the MEFC following children can effectively reflect the current quality of life and diversified needs. As the province with the largest elderly population,Shandong Province is also a province with large population mobility.Selecting the research object in this way has a certain representativeness for the research of the MEFC in China.ObjectivesTaking the migrant elderly following children to Weifang City,Shandong Province as an example, the purpose is to understand the basic characteristics and life satisfaction status of the MEFC in Weifang City, and explored its influencing factors. And starting from the needs of the MEFC,this paper puts forward measures to improve their life satisfaction,so as to provide basis for relevant departments to formulate and improve the welfare policies of the MEFC and promote health promotion.Data sources and methodsBased on the project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, this study selected three communities in Weifang City as sampling sites by multi-stage cluster sampling method. The migrant population aged 60 and above living in the communities who following children to Weifang City for 3 months or more for supporting their children, and their household registration remains in place were taken as study objective. The data of 613 MEFC were finally included in this study Though Stata 15.0 software, descriptive analysis was conducted to present the basic situation and life satisfaction status of the MEFC.Chi-square test, independent sample T test and rare event Logistic regression analysis were used to explore the influencing factors.Through comparative analysis, differences in influencing factors of life satisfaction of the elderly living with or without pension were explored. And it made 0.05 the boundary of statistical significance.ResultsThe life satisfaction of the MEFC in Shandong Province was 90.7%(very satisfied 29.7%,satisfied 34.7%,a little satisfied 26.3%).The MEFC in Weifang are characterized by younger age, female, low education level, moving from rural areas to cities, more active willingness to move, and relatively good physical and physical health. The results of univariate analysis showed that age, total monthly income with spouse, type of household registration, willingness to move, whether to smoke, whether to exercise, children’s age, whether to understand less care time,self-rated living conditions, bedroom area, difficulty in falling asleep, oral health, physical health, mental health and subjective support in social support The impact of support utilization and objective support on the MEFC’life satisfaction was statistically significant. After further rare event logistic regression analysis, the results showed that age, total monthly income with spouse, migrant willingness, children’s age, living conditions,SF-12(PCS,MCS)and subjective social support had significant effects on the life satisfaction of the elderly. Conclusion and policy recommendationThe MEFC in Weifang City,Shandong province were characterized by younger age, female, low education level, moving from rural areas to cities, more active willingness to move, and relatively good physical and physical health. The life satisfaction level of the MEFC in Weifang City was lower than the average level of life satisfaction of the ordinary elderly in Shandong Province. And the subjective and objective factors from individual, family and other aspects had an important impact on the life satisfaction of the elderly.Based on the research results and population characteristics, this study believes that multiple subjects should be encouraged to participate in actively coping with the cause of aging.Specifically,(1)Carry forward the filial piety culture of the new era in the whole society and highlight the social responsibility of respecting and loving the elderly;(2)Community,family and the elderly themselves and other subjects work together to improve the social support network system;(3)Deepen the reform of the old-age insurance system, strive to narrow the differences in social welfare among the elderly in different industries and groups, and improve the sense of belonging and identity of the accompanying elderly;(4)Create a livable environment suitable for aging, including creating a comfortable and reassuring inner environment for the displaced elderly, and the joint efforts of the government, community and family to create a suitable living environment for the displaced elderly.
