The Effect Mechanism Of Stressful Life Events On Junior School Students’ Depression And Intervention Study | | Posted on:2024-09-23 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:J Q Zhang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555307178965019 | Subject:Mental health education | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Depression,as a common psychological problem in the adolescent stage,is of great concern worldwide.Depression has multiple negative effects on junior high school students,and there are many different academic opinions on the mechanism of depression,which eventually led to the formation of the quality-stress stress model,which many researchers have used as a basis to explore the mechanism of depression.Middle school students face multiple stressors and are more likely to experience negative life events that produce depression.Previous studies have found that coping styles and psychological capital can be used as qualities to explain depression.This study introduces the positive psychological quality of self-worth from the perspective of positive psychology to explore the mechanisms of stressful life events and self-worth on depression in junior high school students;at the same time,it explores effective intervention programs to improve selfworth and depression through sports to alleviate students’ negative emotions,which has certain It is also of practical significance to explore effective intervention programs to improve self-worth and depression through sports to alleviate students’ negative emotions.In the end,two sub-studies were designed for this study.Study 1 explored the mechanisms by which negative life events affect depression in adolescents,using questionnaires to investigate the levels of stressful life events,levels of depression,levels of self-esteem,and levels of physical activity in 1200 middle school students in a city.The mechanism of the influence of stressful life events on depression was explored from a cross-sectional perspective.The results showed that the four variables of stressful life events,self-worth,physical activity,and depression were significantly correlated between the two pairs of junior high school students.Self-worth played a partially mediating role in stressful life events and depression,and sports played a moderating role in the effect of stressful life events on self-worth.To further investigate the effect of physical activity,Study 2 adopted a calisthenics intervention in which 24 junior high school students with high scores of stressful life events and depression and low scores of self-esteem(extreme values removed)were selected from Study 1 and randomly divided into two groups of 12 students each.The experimental group underwent a 6-week,twice-weekly,45-minute intervention,and the control group did not.The results of Study 2 showed that the experimental group had significantly lower depression scores before and after the physical activity compared to the control group.However,no significant changes were found in the junior high school students’ self-worth scores before and after sports in the experimental group.In conclusion,for middle school students,stressful life events can affect depression not only directly,but also indirectly through the sense of self-worth.And sports would moderate the effects of stressful life events on self-worth.Group counseling interventions in physical education and sports can improve depression in middle school students experiencing negative life events.The results provide new ideas for secondary school mental health education efforts. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | junior high school students, stressful life events, depression, sense of self-worth | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
