| With the rise of the Internet and emerging technology industries,traditional employment models are slowly being replaced by a new gig economy with increasingly flexible types,hours,and forms of work.Although previous field studies have revealed the proactive behaviors that online contract deliverers may engage in to cope with the "double uncertainty" of their work with a "crafting" dimension,no further empirical studies have been conducted to explore the specific content,potential However,no further empirical studies have been conducted to explore the specific content,potential influencing factors,and outcomes of job crafting among online contract deliverers.In addition,the work environment,characteristics and conditions of workers in the new gig economy are very different from the traditional organizational context,and there are relatively few theoretical and empirical studies on job crafting in the context of the new gig economy,so it is of great practical significance and value to explore job crafting in the new gig economy.To address the above issues,this study takes online contract deliverers as the research object to explore the specific connotation of traditional job crafting and related mechanisms of their job crafting in the context of this unique group.First,this study defines the job crafting of deliverers as the proactive behavior of online contract deliverers to accomplish performance goals by referring to the relevant studies on traditional job crafting.Secondly,based on the interview study of 10 online contract deliverers,a measurement model including three dimensions of ’ task crafting ’,’relationship crafting’ and ’ cognitive crafting ’ was constructed.Finally,using the newly developed measurement tool,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 229 delivers.Results show that the job crafting of online contract delivers has a significant positive predictive effect on their occupational self-efficacy,job performance(punctuality rate,praise rate,orders)and job satisfaction;in addition,the occupational self-efficacy of delivers plays a mediate role in the relationship between job crafting and job performance and job satisfaction.This study defines the job crafting of online contract deliverers in the context of the new gig economy,and develops measurement tools and mechanisms to help promote subsequent quantitative research in this area,providing useful guidance for further exploring the possible positive outcomes of job crafting of online contract delivers,and improving the work experience and performance of online contract delivers. |
