The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)clearly proposes to promote the implementation of holistic unit teaching,to implement teaching based on the blueprint of unit education,and to build a goal system consisting of unit teaching objectives,discourse teaching objectives and lesson teaching objectives,so that students can gradually construct a complete cognition of the unit topic and promote the formation of correct attitudes and values.As the most important and crucial part of the unit teaching design,the scientific design of the unit teaching objectives will directly affect the quality of the overall teaching design and is related to the final achievement of the curriculum objectives.Therefore,based on the ABCD goal statement theory and the big concept extraction path theory,this study adopted a mixed research method combining quantitative research and qualitative research,and conducted a questionnaire survey on 215 elementary English teachers in J city from four dimensions of goal cognition,goal design,goal implementation and existing problems,and analyzed the text of six unit overall teaching designs from three aspects of teaching goal extraction path,teaching goal literacy embodiment and teaching goal writing normality to understand the current situation of elementary English teachers’ unit overall teaching goal design after the promulgation of the new standards from both cognitive and design aspects.The results of the questionnaire showed that English teachers in elementary school in J city had the problems of unclear understanding of teaching objectives and weak awareness of teaching objective design at the cognitive level,and unclear paths of extracting teaching objectives and poor standardization of teaching objective statements at the design level.Based on the problems found,the author designed an interview outline and interviewed seven teachers involved in the design to explore the causes of the problems from three aspects: teachers,schools and teaching and research support.Based on the reasons that teachers did not pay enough attention to the design of the overall teaching objectives of the unit,the author proposed strategies for teachers to change their negative attitudes and actively learn the theoretical knowledge of the design of the overall teaching objectives of the unit.It is hoped that this study will provide elementary school English teachers with help and thoughts on the design of overall unit teaching objectives,improve teachers’ ability to design overall unit teaching,improve the design of teaching objectives,and promote the implementation of students’ core literacy. |
