The risks of earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis and global climate change have posed serious threats to human life and health, and the outbreak of the COVID-19 in 2020 has given people a new understanding of disaster risks.Nowadays, how to prevent and avoid risks has become a hot issue in human research. This practice report selects the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk 2021 International Conference as the practice material, aiming to convey the latest information of the international society on disaster risk prevention and control to more people,to arouse people’s attention to disaster, and to call on people to work together to maintain the global home. This is a report on the practice of simulated consecutive interpreting from English to Chinese under the guidance of schema theory. The author combines cognitive psychology and linguistics, and uses the three dimensions of schema, namely linguistic schema, content schema and structural schema,to study its help and influence on the process of pre-interpretation preparation, interpreters’ comprehension and memory of information and output, and to analyse how schema theory can help interpreters solve difficulties and problems in the process of interpretation. The author also summarizes the ways to activate and utilize schema in interpreting, and proposes translation techniques when linguistic schema are defaulted, such as grasping keywords, combining contexts, prediction strategies and so on.In the course of this simulation practice, the author found that schema theory has a positive influence on English to Chinese consecutive interpreting.Schema theory helps interpreters understand, memorize, predict and produce information, and better complete the translation activity. It is hoped that this translation practice will be useful for future conference interpreting on disaster risks topics and assist interpreters in completing their interpreting tasks.
