| Currently,English is the international academic lingua franka.As the international communication has become increasingly frequent,international academic conference—an important form for international academic exchange,has become a significant channel for scholars to display the achievements of their research.But influenced by the cross-language differences of academic paper presentations,the English to Chinese interpreting is faced with difficulties,for instance,the long and difficult sentences,specialized terminologies as well as the presenters’ oral errors.Schema Theory,which can be categorized into linguistic schema,content schema and formal schema enables people to associate new information with relevant knowledge,concepts,theories,background or experience that already exist in the human brain.Based on the simulated interpreting practice of the in-class international academic conference,the report analyzed what strategies can be taken to improve the interpreting quality under the framework of the Schema Theory.The analysis was mainly performed on lexical,syntactical and contextual levels with examples taken from the simulated interpreting practice of in-class international academic conference.The interpreting practice proved that linguistic schema can facilitate the selection of lexical meanings,the interpretation of specific terminologies and the correction of presenters’ oral errors.Content schema plays an important role in choosing the strategies to cope with passive sentences as well as long and complex sentences.Formal schema is helpful to predict the move steps of the speeches.The evaluation of interpreting quality also verified the applied effectiveness of Schema Theory in the simulation of international academic conference interpreting.The practice report intends to draw the attention of academic conference interpreters to the use of Schema Theory in interpreting,improve the quality of the interpreter and offer useful guidance for the future practitioners. |
