Telling Chinese stories and spreading Chinese voices well will help show a credible,lovely and respectable image of China and promote the excellent Chinese culture to the world.In the group of international students in academic education,undergraduate students account for the highest proportion of the total number of academic students,and the status of undergraduate students majoring in Chinese is particularly special,and the study of Chinese as a major makes them very close to contemporary Chinese society.Therefore,investigating the cognition of contemporary Chinese image of undergraduate students majoring in Chinese is of great guiding significance for shaping a good image of contemporary China.Firstly,this paper investigates and studies the image cognition of contemporary China from 2018 to 2022 undergraduate students majoring in Chinese at Qingdao University through questionnaires,uses SPSS 21 as a data statistics and analysis tool,and uses descriptive analysis,difference analysis and correlation analysis to analyze the image cognition of contemporary China and its relationship with Chinese learning background.The survey results show that the overall image and dimensional image of contemporary China of international students majoring in Chinese at Qingdao University have a good cognitive status.The top four channels used by international students with the highest frequency of contemporary Chinese image cognition channels are Chinese teachers,Chinese media and Chinese social software,Chinese films,television dramas,newspapers and magazines,and Chinese courses,while the three channels related to China,Chinese friends,Chinese teaching materials,and Chinese cultural exchange activities,need to be improved.The grade level and target language environment in the background of Chinese language learning are important factors affecting the cognition of contemporary China’s national image among international students majoring in Chinese.Secondly,using the semi-structured interview method,a total of 21 international students in the target language environment category and non-target language environment category were interviewed by purpose sampling.On the one hand,the narrative research of typical cases in different language learning environments is carried out,and the development process and typical events of the image cognition of the two types of cases are sorted out.On the other hand,with the help of Nvivo11 Plus software,the interview content is qualitatively analyzed,the same topics are extracted,and the interview materials are summarized and classified,so as to analyze and summarize the same factors affecting the image perception of contemporary China among international students.The study found that the influencing factors mainly focused on five aspects:family factors-parental attitudes and Chinese images transmitted in the family;National aspects – relations between the two countries and China’s policy on international students;Social aspects-the status of Chinese in the home country of international students and the public’s perception of China;Personal aspects – personality,motivation,previous undergraduate experience in China and cognitive channels;Schools– Chinese teachers,Chinese teaching materials,curricula and cultural exchange events and competitions.Finally,according to the conclusions in the questionnaire and interview,this paper puts forward thoughts and suggestions for shaping a good image of contemporary China in the minds of international students from five aspects: communicator,communication content,communication channel,communication audience and communication effect.
