Redundancy is a common problem for interpreters.Compared to simultaneous interpretation, consecutive interpretation is less tolerant of the redundancy. This means that the interpreter must quickly understand the source language in a short time and output the target language in a clear, accurate and more audible manner in consecutive interpretation.Conversely, this may result in inefficient messaging, excessive time for translation and other problems that make it difficult for the audience to understand and ultimately lead to ineffective interpretive communication. The case study in this paper will focus on a simulated conference with the theme of CJ Rongqing and the logistics industry. The author’s interpretation is analyzed and the redundancies are specifically discussed. After comparing the speech and the interpretation, the author sorts out the redundancy that occurs in the interpretation process, analyzes the causes, and proposes corresponding coping strategies. The author classifies the concept of redundancy into two types and analyzes the causes of redundancy. The redundancy is mainly caused by errors in the listening analysis and notetaking stages as well as in the expression stage. The errors in the listening analysis stage are due to the lack of logical analysis and the obstacle of word meaning comprehension;the errors in the note-taking stage are due to the unclear notation and the disorganized structure of notes;and the errors in the expression stage are due to the influence of the source language form and personal poor Chinese habits. After analyzing the reasons, the author proposes corresponding coping strategies to deal with the three stages of failure, which may help other interpreters.
