Redundancy And Coping Methods In E-C Consecutive Interpreting Of An On-line Interview Under The Guidance Of Information Theory

This practice report is based on the author’s simulated consecutive interpreting task of an online interview titled “One-Way Street Literary Round Tables--Who Is Writing on the Frontlines of Our Society”.The speakers produced impromptu speeches according to the questions in the interview.Through analysis of target speech,the author focuses on the excessive redundancy,including redundant conjunctions,pronouns,quantifiers and verbal fillers;repetitions;lengthy sentence structures.The author also analyzes the causes for the excessive redundancy from the communicative perspective under the guidance of Information Theory.And by reviewing the previous researches on redundancy and on impromptu speech interpreting,the author puts forward the coping methods: omission,compression and restructuring.
