Invalid Redundancy Phenomenon And Strategy Of Chinese-arabi Consecutive Interpreting

Redundancy is a frequent phenomenon in interpretation.Appropriate redundancy contributes to the fluency of translation and can promote the more accurate communication of information,and at the same time helps the interpreter to relieve certain pressure,but invalid redundancy will cause difficulty in listening to the target language,making the interpretation look wordy and easily cause objection to the audience,affecting the overall performance of interpretation.This study takes the opening speech of Xi Jinping at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2017 as an example.The author conducted mock conference for consecutive Chinese-Arabic interpreting.During the meeting,the author tried to interpret clearly and completely,the author transcribed the source language and the target language,compared the source language and the target language,analyzed and compared personal notes,and selected cases where the target language was invalidly redundant.Through detailed analysis,the author finds out the causes of invalid redundancy in the case are improper notes,insufficient expression ability in the target language,listening impairment in the source language and insufficient mastery of the structural differences between the two languages.Through personal experience and references,the author proposes corresponding solutions to the causes of invalid redundancy,that is,optimizing notes,enhancing the listening of the source language,enhancing the expression of the target language,enhancing the understanding of the differences between the Chinese and Arabic languages,and improving the ability of “quit the source language structure”during the interpretation.The author hopes that the analysis of the causes of invalid redundancy in the case of this paper and the proposed solutions can be useful for improving the ability of Chinese-Arabic interpreters.
