Redundancy is one of the core concepts of information theory. Then linguists introduced it into translation study.A proper amount of redundancy can help people understand each other during communication. However, there is always time pressure for consecutive interpreting events,so an interpreter shall be capable of interpreting a speech with a concise target language as quickly as possible. The tolerance of redundancy is relatively low in interpreting. The author of this thesis has found the problem of over redundancy in her interpreting.Redundancy in Korean-Chinese interpreting may lead to heavy expressions and failures to highlight important information of the speech. This thesis first explores the concept of redundancy in informatics. Then, after studying other scholars’ classification of redundancy, the author categorizes redundancy into redundancy of repetition and redundancy of cumulation, and try to explore the reasons for the occurrence of redundancy.Redundancy of repetition is the behavior of repeating the same words or phrases, which is caused by improper notetaking and lack of expression. The types of redundancy of cumulation in this case includes heavy expressions, reconstruction and backtracking. Then the author gives four pieces of advice to help interpreters cut redundancy in consecutive interpreting: improve note-taking skills, improve Chinese expression, listen to oneself when interpreting and slow down the speed.
