| Standards are the “common language” for international exchanges and cooperation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Formulating and translating TCM standards during the process of international communication, can not only provide regulation for TCM to promote the recognition of its efficacy, but also serve as a strong way to maintain the discourse power. The TCM standards feature unique language style, cultural characteristics, and high professionalism and standardization. This thesis takes the TCM standards from Chinese-English translation project of the International Standards Department of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies(WFCMS)as cases.Whether the translation of terms is accurate and systematic, whether the expression is standardized and whether the message delivery is effective are closely related to the realization of information function of the text, which bring challenges to the translation of TCM standards.Accordingly, this thesis puts forward translation strategies, including 1)adding explanation and constructing of concept map for the term translation;2)standardizing the general expression of standards and establishing intertextuality to meet the requirement for translating standards;3)adopting clarifying means such as reconstructing information structure and explicit logic for better communication effects,so as to provide references for the Chinese-English translation of TCM standards. |
