The development of the countryside is an important part of the country’s prosperity and development process, and farmers, who are the main labor force in the countryside, are the main experiencers and witnesses of the development of the countryside. The documentary on rural revitalization, which focuses on farmers in the new era, records the changes in the image of farmers and the development of rural areas since the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, and most of these documentary films mainly focus on the life stories of the new-age farmers during the rural revitalization period to complete the video recording of the upgrading of agricultural industry and the development of rural changes. Therefore, the study on the image of new farmers in documentaries on rural revitalization is important for promoting the spirit of farmers in the new era, spreading rural culture and promoting the implementation of rural revitalization. This essay is broken into five sections. The first part focuses on the development of rural revitalization documentaries and the concepts of new farmers and new farmers’ image, explains the current situation of "new farmers’ image in documentary films on rural revitalization" from a macro perspective, and then leads to the subsequent questions about what and how to portray the new farmers’ image in documentary films on rural revitalization.Based on Bourdieu’s field theory, the second part uses the case study method to compare the images of farmers in the process of urban-rural integration and rural revitalization in the historical-cultural field space;to analyze the image of new farmers with retrospective feelings in the consumer culture field space;and to study the image of new farmers in rural revitalization documentaries through the self-image of farmers in the social-psychological field space. The third part explores the storytelling means to shape the image of new farmers in rural revitalization documentaries under the perspective of narrative theory. The first is to reproduce the characteristics of the new farmers with a diverse narrative structure. The main line of special agricultural products is selected by using the tandem structure to present the different main roles played by new farmers for different crops;the interwoven structure is used to record the stories of different rural families, thus presenting the diverse characterization of new farmers;the panel structure is used to gather several typical villages to deepen the public’s identification with the new group of farmers.Secondly,a diverse narrative perspective draws the audience into the stories of new farmers. The omniscient perspective integrates the materials and highlights the stories that are representative of the new farmers’ daily life and intuitively reflect their characters;the internal perspective uses the farmers’ self-expression to highlight the new farmers’ individual spiritual characteristics and refine their core;the external perspective highlights the new farmers’ authenticity from the perspective of objective and complete stories. Finally,a rich array of narrative techniques, such as detailed portrayal, internal and external pacing and suspenseful conflict, are used to add the storytelling of farmers’ lives while achieving overall documentary coordination, and to enrich the character traits of new farmers. The fourth part discusses the audiovisual strategies for constructing new farmers’ images in the documentary, mainly using documentary video to supplement and strengthen new farmers’ expressions, and sound writing aids in the presentation of farmers’ emotions;through the elaborate conception of light and shadow to outline the space of farmers’ lives and highlight the characteristics of new farmers, the contrast between cold tones of the past and warm tones of the present intuitively shows the transformation process of farmers’ images. The use of long shots can capture the real process of the new farmers’ image changes, allowing the audience to intuitively feel the farmers’ psychology, and the montage technique can help amplify the emotion of new farmers by grouping lens together in post-production.As the creators of the new era who assume important communication functions in rural revitalization, they should make full use of the comprehensive use of audio-visual means to accurately capture the new changes and new characteristics of the new farmers,so that the audience can see the three-dimensional and full image of the new farmers through the images. The fifth part summarizes the value presentation and the remaining limitations of the image building of new farmers in a general way.The creation of the image specimens of advanced individual "new farmers" in the new era plays an important role in the objective writing and recording of the countryside, the dissemination of rural culture and the shaping of the national image. However, due to the influence of many factors, the image of new farmers inevitably tends to be "patterned" or reduced to an "accessory" for the construction of rural scenes. Therefore,it is necessary to use the power of mainstream media and independent video creators to create capable and responsible individual "villagers’ images",enhance social attention to the new farmers, and recruit talents for the development of the countryside. |
