Application Of Parallel Texts In The Translation Of Agricultural Sci-tech Publications

Tea science is a traditional discipline with a long history.It is China that tea science originated in,and Chinese tea culture has a lengthy history.The C-E translation of tea science monographs will do good to promote the innovation of technologies in the tea industry,and the spreading of Chinese tea culture.Introduction to Tea Science,which is edited by Professor Zhu Qi,is a significant textbook widely used by undergraduates in universities of agriculture and forestry in China.The original translation text of this translation practice report is the seventeenth chapter of Introduction to Tea Science.It has introduced the processing of scented tea,and belongs to agricultural scitech publications.As a special English style,agricultural sci-tech English has its own features at both lexical and syntactic levels,and its content is highly specialized.In the process of translation,there are three main problems: the understanding of the original text due to short of professional knowledge in tea science;the proper use of technical terms in tea science;and the style of the translated version.By means of selected parallel texts,firstly,the translation of technical terms of tea science,culture-loaded words and the nominalized expression of verbs are confirmed;secondly,with the help of sentence structures used in the parallel texts,the subject of sentence should be added to the non-subject sentences,and some active sentences are converted into passive sentences;finally,as to discourse,the logical cohesion and informative coherence are concerned.In this translation practice,it is found that with the help of words,sentence patterns,logic and writing styles in parallel texts,the translated version not only can be made more fluent and natural,its professional level and readability but also can be improved.However,due to the scented tea is unique in China,the limitation of parallel texts available is unavoidable,and all those parallel texts which can be found can not offer enough help,so in the process of translation,careful consideration of the translator is still quite needed.
