| Agricultural biodiversity is a major topic in agricultural research,and the translation of agricultural sci-tech texts is of great significance for the exchange and development of international agricultural research.The author was commissioned to translate two papers from Routledge Handbook of Agricultural Biodiversity,which are The Green Revolution and Crop Biodiversity and Wild Plant and Animal Genetic Resources.The entire handbook is divided into six chapters,providing a comprehensive introduction to agricultural biodiversity from a variety of disciplines,including plant and animal genetics,ecology,crop and animal science,food research and nutrition,among others.The two papers translated by the author introduce the genetic resources of wild plants and animals and the biodiversity of crops respectively.During the translation practice,the author,guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory,takes into account the articles’ linguistic characteristics and the important and difficult points and adopts various translation methods and techniques to ensure that the meaning of the original text can be accurate and the expressions of the target text can be concise,natural and highly readable.As agricultural sci-tech texts,both papers have the main characteristics of being highly specialized,replete with agricultural terminologies and long and difficult sentences.In response to those features,the translator,in the process of translation,focuses on keeping the professionalism and consistency of the technical terms,utilizes various techniques to deal with long and complex sentences including rearranging syntactic structure,division and combination as well as chooses the expressions that conform to the target language conventions and are easier for the readers to accept,thus maintaining the semantic meaning and logical coherence of the original text.This translation report analyzes cases at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels and provides a detailed explanation,summary and reflection on the specific translation methods and techniques adopted to achieve functional equivalence in the translation,with a view to providing reference and guidance for the future practice. |
