With the deepening of economic globalization and rapid development of science and technology, the communication of science and technology between China and other countries becomes increasingly popular. Therefore,we not only need to continuously reinforce the ability of publishing scientific research achievements to the other countries but also to increase the introduction of overseas scientific achievements and thoughts in order to achieve the high-level,deep and frequent interaction and mutual understanding with international scientific community. But most of the translators in China share an English major education background, thus lacking in relevant professional knowledge and micro and macro knowledge as related to terminology, grammatical and stylistic features of scientific discourse. One of the remedies to make up for such "shortness" of translators is to make full use of various approaches and resources to retrieve the parallel texts in different fields which can throw light on the understanding of original sci-tech texts and the idiomatic and functionally equivalent representations in target language.Based on the E/C translation of High yield expression, refording, and characterization of recombinant interferon a2/a8 hybrids in Escherichia coli published in Protein Expression&Purification in 2003 and under the guidance of Fuctional Equivalence Theory, this thesis will discuss how to make innovation use of parallel texts to give full play to their illuminative reference function on the understanding of principles, procedures, methods in the original texts as well as the perception of the original sci-tech textual structure and style so that idiomatic representations of them in the target language can be realized to achieve the functional equivalence in sci-tech translation.
