At present, sustainable development is not only an opportunity shared by all mankind but also a challenge for social advancement.Greening Cities by Growing Food(Chapter 5),an informative text,as the source text of this translation project, demonstrates that building public space is able to reduce the pressure upon agriculture and prompt sustainable development by making an analysis of the construction of environmental commons in four cities across the Americas. This project shared the experience of environmental commons construction, introduced the techniques of translating informative texts in the field of urban agriculture and dealt with the difficulties under the guidance of communicative translation theory to accurately convey information. With strict organization of discourse, logic, objectivity and profoundness, the source text contains a large amount of abstract nouns, prepositional phrases, sentences with inanimate subjects, attributive clauses and so on.The translator consequently met the difficulties of translating abstract nouns, inanimate subjects and attributive clauses. In light of communicative translation theory, the report explains how the translator utilizes appropriate translation techniques to deal with the difficulties in the translation, namely, how to translate abstract nouns by conversion of word class and concretization, how to translate inanimate subjects by conversion of word class and division, and how to translate attributive clauses by fronting and post-positioning.This report summarizes what the translator gains through this project such as the capability of translating, literature searching, theoretical recognizing,project-planing,and the sense of responsibility, and what the translator should build, such as the capability of collocation and discourse organization in the target language.
