A Report On E-C Translation Of Informative Texts Under The Gudiance Of Semantic Translation Theory

The Internet has connected the world and greatly promoted global economic development,but cybercrime has also been occurring repeatedly.Countries need to strengthen communication and cooperation in network management to jointly maintain network security and improve efficiency.Therefore,translating the latest relevant literature has strong practical significance.This report is based on the English-to-Chinese translation practice of Partnership Against Cybercrime released by the World Economic Forum in 2020,aiming to explain what cybercrime is and its harm to international society.The original text belongs to an informative text,with highly professional and formal language,and the focus is on conveying information.This is consistent with Peter Newmark’s semantic translation theory.Semantic translation emphasizes that conveying the meaning of the original text is more important than conveying its literal meaning.The goal of semantic translation is to be as faithful to the original text as possible while ensuring that the translation’s grammar and usage conform to the target language’s habits and norms to ensure accuracy and readability.Guided by the theory of semantic translation,the author conducted a case analysis from the levels of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse,aiming to use nine translation techniques such as addition,omission,conversion,changing words order,voice conversion,division,completing information,restoring referential pronouns and adding linking words to connect the context and convey the original meaning accurately while meeting the target language’s structure.
