The source text of the translation project is 3D Printing and Intellectual Property, authored by Lucas S.Osborn.It was published by Cambridge University Press in July 2019.This book first introduces the functional limitations, workflow and related details of 3D printing, and then introduces its conflicts and impacts on intellectual property law.The first and second chapters are selected as translation materials in this translation report. In recent years, the rise of 3D printing has brought impact and influence on intellectual property law,but few researches have been made on this field in China. This project aims to supplement the lack of relevant materials in China through the translation of this text, provide more references for domestic researchers in related fields, and provide translators with translation experience and improve his practical translation ability. As the original text is related to law,its words and structures are rigorous and contains many acronyms, metaphors and complex sentences. In order to ensure that the translation accurately conveys the original content, this paper selects the functional equivalence theory as the theoretical basis. On the basis of a detailed summary of the source text, this report employed the translation techniques of annotation, restructuring, and using non-metaphoric expressions, aiming at increasing the readability of the translated text as well as fully expressing the original information.
