Vocabulary, as the building material of the language, it plays a vital role for the second language learner's language learning and acquisition. The vocabulary annotation is the most important description and instruction for these "building materials". Appropriate and accurate vocabulary annotation not only can help the learner understand Chinese textbook very well but also can help them to use those words correctly and flexibly. On the contrary, inappropriate vocabulary annotation usually becomes the source of language error.On the Foundation of Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis takes Boya Chinese (Elementary) and A New Chinese Course(1.11) as the research objects to conduct the survey. It analyses the current vocabulary annotation situation and potential problems among these Chinese textbooks. Based on that, the author of thesis puts up some suggestions about vocabulary annotation for the Chinese textbook.This thesis consists of 5 parts.The first part is the preface of the paper. It gives us some instructions about the reaearch value and significance; research background; research objects and research methodology. The second part is the chapter 1. This chapter analyses the current situtations of vocabulary annotation in the Chinese textbook, including its text type; function; potential problems and so on. In addition, this chapter also makes a brief introduction of the Functional Equivalence Theory. On the basis of that, the author of thesis puts up several advice for vocabualry annotation in Chinese textbook. The third part is chapter 2. At the beginning of it, the author investagates the range of vocabulary annotation study. Then, the vocabulary annotation pattern and the similarity degree of it have been statiscically analysed. The fourth part of this thesis is the chapter 3. This part analysed the vocabulary annotation problems in these overlapped vocabularys from the followinging five perspectives:semantics:pragmatics:context:culture and proofreading.The last part is chapter 5. With the hope to improve the quality of the vocabulary annotation in Chinese textbook, the author of thesis puts up several suggestions for the followers.
