| The Governance of China has attracted widespread attention from readers at home and abroad since its publication in 2014,serving as an important channel for the world to understand China. The English version of the book is authoritative due to its special position.Scholars have made research on it from different perspectives, but with a few on the translation of idioms quoted in the book and translation compensation strategies adopted by translators.Based on that, the thesis is intended to study the compensation strategies adopted by translators in translating idioms from the “three dimensions of Eco-translatology” proposed by Hu Gengshen. The thesis first applies Eco-translatology to study translation compensation strategies. The combination of the two theories allows translators to choose translation strategy in a more flexible way.It is also hoped that the understanding of translation compensation can be deepened to a certain extent.Besides, with the help of NVivo11,the thesis used a DIY parallel corpus to code the compensation strategies of the idioms quoted in the three volumes of The Governance of China. It is found that,in general, translators tend to adopt implicit compensation in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, rarely using explicit compensation.Through specific case analysis,it is found that the implicit compensation adopted includes strategies such as amplification, generalization and paraphrase, while explicit compensation mainly includes adding text notes and footnotes. |
