| The material for this translation practice is selected from the article The Turing Test,which introduces the concept of the Turing Test,Turing’s paper(1950)and some arguments contained in it,the current assessment of the Turing Test and other articles about the Turing Test in detail.As a scientific literature,the source text is logical and philosophical,which easily resonates with readers.In addition,the source text is highly specialized,with a large number of proper nouns and long and difficult sentences in it,which brings certain difficulties and challenges to the translation of the source text.The translation is inspired by Catford’s translation shifts theory,which argues that translation should not be confined to formal correspondence,but should focus on the expression of textual meaning,which is in line with the translation principle of “be loyal to the source text and accurately conveying its content” in scientific texts.In this report,the writer discusses in depth the guiding role of this theory for Chinese translation of scientific texts at two levels: level shift and category shift.In the aspect of level shift,the writer mainly analyzes and compares the differences between the source and the target text at the micro linguistic level,such as lexical level and syntactic level,and then summarizes the methods or skills used in the process of conversion between Chinese and English.In terms of category shift,the writer makes a multi-level and multidimensional analysis of the translation from the perspective of language phenomenon and cultural background,so that the translation can convey the original information accurately and be read naturally and smoothly. |
