Analysis Of The Muiscal Composition Features Of Gabriel Fauré’s Song Cycle “poème D’un Jour” Op.21

Gabriel Urbain Fauré(1845-1924)was a famous French composer of the late Romantic period who,during his lifetime,wrote more than a hundred vocal works on a variety of subjects that contributed to the development of French art song.Song cycle “Poème d’un jour”,a work from the middle of Fauré’s career and his first song cycle,consists of three songs with texts taken from a collection of poems of the same name by the French poet Charles Grandmougin.The three songs are short and concise,and the interweaving of the vocal part with the piano accompaniment,the melody and the emotion of the poem,together creating the musical image and the theme of the story,make it a classic piece of French art song.In the analysis of the musical composition of this work,it can be found that the three songs are cleverly conceived in terms of the accompaniment weaving,melodic writing and harmonic use,depending on the content of the interpretation,and the melody and accompaniment overlap to express different musical characters.The story is clearly portrayed in three points of love,reflecting Fauré’s personality and unique musical language as well as his delicate compositional style,providing reference ideas for future studies of Fauré’s other art songs and even French art song works.In this paper,the musical composition of song cycle “Poème d’un jour” is taken as the main research content,and the three art songs are studied and analysed from several aspects,such as song structure,harmonic structure,accompaniment weaving,and the coordination between voice and piano,to summarise the inner connection between the songs and Fauré’s composition style,further deepening the understanding of Fauré’s art songs and enabling a basic understanding and grasp of Fauré’s musical composition characteristics.
