Gabriel Faurd(1845-1924)was a major French composer,pianist,teacher,and organist duringthe end of the 19th century to the early 20th century.His music is known as its French national style.The entire "9 Preludes",Op.103,a masterpiece in his piano outputs,boasts its excellent harmony and counterpoint,representing one of the peaks of his career.With "9 Preludes" by Faureas the subject of this thesis,the compositional features of his piano music,especially those in his later years,and the background of composing the set of preludes have been studied and analyzed.On top of these,an more detailed analysis on the "9 Preludes" has been done in order to delve into the techniques employed in playing the preludes.
