French composer and pianist Francis Poulenc,is the most representative composer of French art songs in the 20~thh century,following Faure Gabriel,and Achille-Claude Debussy.This paper aims to analyze the artistic features and music processing of his French song cycle TEL JOUR,TELLE NUIT.There are 9songs in this cycle.The cycle can be divided into two sections,including“Day”and“Night”,through which the composer and the poet can express their feelings and thoughts.“Day”embodies the pessimism of real life,while“Night”reflects a vision for a better life.This image is not only a single creation of literature and music but also a reflection of the ideological and cultural revolution in France and even Europe at that time.Therefore,how to understand these images through the angle of music and treat them with singing technical is the key to this paper.There are three chapters in total.In the first chapter,it briefly introduces Francis Poulenc and the poet Pauléluard.In the second chapter,this paper makes an analysis of the song cycle through“Day”and“Night”separately as well as on the contradiction psychology and drama conflict in singing songs.The last chapter introduces difficulties in singing,personal experience in solving problems,and understanding and singing experiences.
