| The translation project is based on a travel photography book: The Traveling Photographer: A Guide to Great Travel Photography.The translator translated five selected chapters and finished this report independently.The author of the source text Sandra Petrowitz,provides for shutterbugs from a professional perspective,helpful suggestions concerning aspects including pre-shoot,shooting principles,post production,and equipment operation.No authorized translation of this book has been published in China up to the time of this project.The translator has deepened the understanding of photographic theories and techniques through the translation of chapters 3-7.This translation can also provide some references for the relevant photographic translation.This translation report contains translation analyses under the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology theory.Based on Katharina Reiss’ s text type classification,the source text is determined as an informative text.The informative text is intended to convey facts and content of the source text objectively.The translator is required to transmit the complete referential content with plain language and logic structure,creating the familiar language environment for target readers.In accordance with this translation criteria,the translator employs various methods and techniques like addition,omission,conversion,semantic extension and order adjustment in the practical translation that derives from Reiss’ s theory.And specific cases are analyzed both at the lexical level and at the syntactic level.Through theoretical analyses and practical translation,the translator finds that the type of the text is a key factor for the choice of translation strategies and methods.Reiss’ s text typology theory can serve as a guide for the translation of informative texts. |
