Cognitive linguistics is a new paradigm of language research.How to apply the research achievements of cognitive linguistics to foreign language learning and teaching has been a hot topic in recent years.The source text of this translation practice is Andrea Tyler’s Cognitive Linguistics and Second Language Learning:Theoretical Basis and Experimental Evidence.Based on the basic theories of cognitive linguistics,this book focuses on the practical application of this method of interpreting language to accelerate second language learning and teaching,and presents its application effect,which can provide new ideas for Chinese scholars.The academic work is an informative text with strong specialization,more complex sentences and high information density.In order to ensure the readability of the translation and realize the function of borrowing and communication of academic texts,the author selects Peter Newmark’s theory of communicative translation as the guiding theory of this translation practice,and takes the first two chapters of the book as examples to analyze the application of communicative translation theory in the Chinese translation of academic texts,on the basis of which this translation practice report is written.In combination of specific cases,the author uses a variety of translation techniques and methods to deal with the key and difficult points in the text from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,in effort to improve the quality of the translation and realize the communicative function of the translation.At the lexical level,for the translation of technical terms,polysemous words and abstract nouns,the author mainly refers to parallel texts and combines them with the context to ensure the accurate expression of word meanings.At the syntactic level,the author mainly adopts the methods of division,voice conversion and adjustment for the translation of complex long and difficult sentences to make the translation more smooth and natural.At the discourse level,the author pays attention to discourse cohesion and semantic coherence,and adopts the methods of reference cohesion,substitution cohesion and adding connectives to make the translation structure clearer and more intuitive.Through this translation practice,the author finds that the theory of communicative translation is helpful to translating academic texts,and expects that this report can provide some reference for translators to translate such texts in the future. |
