A Report On MTPE Of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Rulebooks(Excerpts)

At a time when globalization is advancing,communication activities between countries around the world are getting closer and closer,and the demand for language services in various industries is growing.Against such a background,machine translation(MT)has been greatly developed.Thanks to the support of cloud computing and big data technology,the translation quality of MT is now getting closer to that of human translators,and it has become an important part of the efficient translation process.However,despite this,the current MT is still far from reaching a translation level comparable to that of human translators.Therefore,Machine Translation+Post Editing(MT+PE),which is a working mode aiming to achieve a balance between translation quality and translation efficiency,is gradually adopted by the translation industry more and more.This report is based on an internship task conducted by the author at a translation company.The source text was excerpted from the Rulebook of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange(CME),which contains a large and recurring amount of business terminology,while the language style has the characteristics of a standardized and uniform legal text,making it very suitable for processing using the MT+PE working method.The author chose Youdao as the MT engine for this translation project,and after it translated the source text,the author then manually edited the MT to ensure that the quality of the translation was up to standard.This report is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1 is an overview of this translation project,including the background of the project,introduction of the source text,and the framework and significance of writing this report;Chapter 2 describes the overall process of the author’s MTPE work,including the pre-translation preparation work,post-editing work,and its guiding principles;Chapter 3 is task analysis,including the introduction of the Text Typology Theory guiding the author’s translation work,the MT error model summarized by the author,and the PE measures taken by the author to correct the specific MT errors during the course of this MTPE work;Chapter 4 is the concluding part of this report,describing some conclusions drawn by the author through this practice.
