| With the progress of translation technology and the rapid increase of translation market demand,the translation mode of “machine translation + post-editing”(MTPE)becomes the mainstream in the translation industry.The author selects an academic text Digital Methods in the Humanities : Challenges,Ideas,Perspectives as the translation material,and adopts machine translation and post-editing mode to translate introduction and the second chapter of the book.Taking the result as the research object,the author summarizes the types of machine translation errors,proposes improvement methods,and summarizes the post-editing strategies to provide reference for the post-editing mode.This report classifies translation errors into four levels: lexical,syntactic,discourse,format and punctuation.Errors at each level have been marked and counted.It is found that machine translation accounts for the largest number of errors at the lexical level,among which the number of wrong translation of term and proper noun is the largest.The second is formatting and punctuation errors,among which the number of formal errors is the largest,mainly including over-translation of footnotes and code,which have not received sufficient attention before.In addition,the handling of dashes also deserves our attention.The percentage of errors at the syntactic level ranks third,among which the errors at the confusion of sentence structure and logic is the largest.The fourth is errors at the textual level,which are mainly divided into errors in reference and coherence.It can be seen that machine translation errors have certain inherent rules,and translators can focus on checking and revising the error-prone points of machine translation when using the post-editing method.In the revision process,different error types also have certain revision patterns,and the revision efficiency can be improved by the patterns.With high academic value,Digital Methods in the Humanities:Challenges,Ideas,Perspectives is an important reference for domestic digital humanities research and practice.Translating such texts and summarizing the types of errors and post-editing methods are important for academic text translation and the optimization of the post-editing model based on machine translation. |
