On Machine Translation And Post-editing Strategies

In the information age,with the continuous growth of translation needs,the MTPE model has emerged.The model combines the speed of translation engines with the intelligence of human translation and is adopted by more and more language service providers with high efficiency and low cost.The thesis is a report on the Chinese translation of media texts based on the MTPE mode.First of all,the author chose Google Translate as the translation engine and collected some parallel texts.Secondly,machine translations are evaluated at lexical and syntactic levels under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.The author started with improper transmission of information in the machine translations,focusing on translations where information transmission is missing or wrong and the effect of communication is undermined.Errors at the lexical level include mistranslation,under-translation and improper collocation,while syntactic error types include improper word order,ambiguity of sentential meaning and improper structure and logic.Finally,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author formulated post-editing methods with a large number of cases.In view of the above lexical errors,the author developed methods of amplification,replacement and contextualization and post-editing methods at syntactic level include adjustment of word order,explication and segmenting and reorganizing.The author hopes that this thesis can provide some ideas for future studies on machine translation and post-editing.
