| AS a representative of irrationalism in modern Western philosophy,Schopenhauer proposed and developed a thought of "life is suffering".Among them, the conflict and split between will and representation is the precondition of "suffering".Schopenhauer emphasized that suffering is to make people have to face the fact that "life is pain",and then they can seek the way to release the suffering, and then complete the leap to happiness. Therefore, the study of Schopenhauer’s concept of pain is the prerequisite for lifting the veil of "suffering" and an important path to promote human beings to seek happiness and pursue the meaning of life.Plato’s "idea",Kant’s "thing-in-itself" provided Schopenhauer with the basic idea of "life is pain" and then it is possible to seek relief from the pain and complete the leap to happiness, which became the philosophical foundation of Schopenhauer’s concept of pain.Through the exploration of the dimension of the fact of pain,Schopenhauer explored the proposition of "pain of life".Through the exploration of the value dimension of pain,Schopenhauer found a way to reduce the contradiction and conflict between will and representation. He analyzed furtherly the way to transcend pain: artistic aesthetic intuition, rational control of desire and rational thinking. Thus people can transcend pain and reach peace, freedom and happiness.Schopenhauer’s view of suffering initiated the study of happiness from the perspective of pain and broke the ontological cage of traditional rationalism. However, there are still some academic controversies about the concept of pain, such as whether the body can communicate the will and of representation, and whether the artistic aesthetic intuition can free people from pain. However, the controversy promotes development, and Schopenhauer’s thought becomes more perfect in the controversy, which provides theoretical guidance for enriching individual spiritual world, shaping individual healthy personality, promoting social material civilization and spiritual civilization, and constructing civilized society. |
