This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Three Great Epoch-Makers in Music(Excerpts). As a biography, this book combines the functions of informative and expressive texts. This transaltion material is an account of two masters of music,Johann Sebastian Bach and Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin, introducing their life experiences, characters and artistic achievements in detail.Based on Werner Koller’s equivalence theory, this report explores five levels of equivalence: denotative equivalence, connotative equivalence,text-normative equivalence, pragmatic equivalence and formal equivalence.According to this theory, the author examines the translation focusing on preserving the original style, achieving equivalence at the levels of vocabulary, sentences, and culture during the translation process. It is concluded that the equivalence theory of Werner Koller has certain guiding significance to the translation practice of biographical literature.
