The source text of the translation “China?s Security Activities in Tajikistan and Afghanistan?s Wakhan Corridor” is selected from the BRI(Belt and Road Initiative)column of National Bureau of Asia Research(NBR).It mainly examines the impact of BRI on China-Tajikistan relations and China?s security approaches safeguarding its interests in this region. The source text, covering issues of military, politics, economics, and diplomacy,is characterized by intensive information, condensed language, and abundance of terminology and background knowledge.High level of language proficiency and good capabilities for data mining are required of the translator. The report is divided into five parts. The first part is the task description with a major focus on the client?s requirements and the translator?s objectives. The second part is the process description, briefing the creation of Translation Memory(TM)and Terminology Database(TDB),as well as difficulties encountered during Human Translation(HT).The third and fourth parts are the theoretical introduction and case analysis, presenting Werner Koller?s “Equivalence Theory” and its application in this practice. The fifth part comes to the summary of implications and limitations.“Equivalence” has always been a key term in the realm of translation studies. While many linguistic pillars have numerous studies on this topic, the definition and principles of this concept still cause lots of debates.Getting rid of endless arguments,Koller puts forward the concept of “Equivalence Relations” based on the summary of the achievements of linguistic translation school. The translator elaborates on the applicability of Koller?s theory in this practice and selects “denotative equivalence”,“connotative equivalence” and “text-normative equivalence” as the guiding principles from the five equivalence hierarchies proposed by Koller. The application of Koller?s theory aims to solve the contradictions between “comprehension and expression”,“faithfulness and expressiveness”,“criticalness and acceptance” in the translation process.
