| With the rapid development of globalization,the exchanges between China and foreign countries are increasingly frequent.In order to meet the demand of obtaining information,informative texts have become a channel for information exchanges between countries.Different from literary works,informative texts are used to help people acquire information or knowledge in a certain field,so as to achieve the purpose of information exchanges.The translator chooses The Story of Food as the practical translation material.The book is mainly about food around the world.Its main content includes the origin of all kinds of foods,the environment in which they grow and their global transmission processes.Under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,this paper analyzes some parts of The Story of Food.Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes the expression effect of the texts and readers’ experience.That is to say,rather than the form,the theory requires translators to pay more attention to the information the original text conveys.In this way,word-by-word translation is not necessary.The core of this theory coincides with the requirements of informative texts translation.Thus,the translator analyzes the text from the lexical level,the syntax level and the textual level.The translation methods involved include conversion of part of speech,synonymous substitution,conversion of voice,conversion of word order,addition and omission and so on.Through this translation,the translator can accumulate translation experience and enhance her translation ability.The writing of this practice report can also enhance the translator’s theoretical knowledge.Through the combination of theory and practice,the writing ability of the translator can also be improved.As the translation text belonging to informative texts,the translator can also acquire knowledge about food,which lays a foundation for future translation practice. |
