A Report On The E-C Translation Of "the Elv System For Kasikornbank Shenzhen New Office Technical Requirements"

The text selected in this thesis is the technical specification part of the bidding document for the office decoration project of Kasikornbank.It belongs to the engineering text of nonliterary translation text with unique translation style.Translation styles usually take sentence patterns,vocabulary and specific expressions as carrier to highlight the differences.The requirements of this ELV system construction and responsibilities in the tender were stated clearly in concise sentences.Besides,this text contains a large number of lexical phenomena such as terminology,acronym,polysemy and so on.Therefore,the author will analyze it from the two overall aspects of sentence pattern and vocabulary,and then discuss the main translation methods taken in this source text including literal translation and zero translation during the translation process.In order to ensure the accuracy of the source text information,the author adopts the foreignization translation strategy and domestication translation strategy for different conditions in this translation process.As to translation methods,in vocabulary,liberal translation,zero translation and the combination of them are main translation methods,while for sentences,the author chooses different translation methods based on sentences types in the text.For example,for passive sentences,we can translate them into Chinese active sentences,sentences with no subject or passive sentences;while for attributive clauses,we can use the method of syntactic linearity,independent translation method or translate them into Chinese determining structures.Only in this way can the target text better transmit the accuracy of the original information,reducing the risk that the project does not meet the needs of the tenderer due to information errors and establishing a good cooperative relationship between the two sides.This paper summarizes the typical vocabulary and sentence types of electric power engineering text,and discusses and analyzes the translation methods of words and sentence patterns in this type of text with examples in the text.It not only has a certain learning significance for those who want to understand the terms of the ELV industry,but also has a certain reference significance for majoring in English translation students in their work on similar texts.
