A Tourism Escort Interpreting Practice Report On Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project

China’s tourism industry has become a new economic growth point under the new normal.As China’s comprehensive national power and global influence continue to grow steadily,more and more foreign visitors are attracted to China.On one hand,foreign tourists eager to appreciate the colorful natural landscape of China,on the other hand,they also want to experience the rich cultural heritage.Under the circumstances,Chinese-English escort interpreting play a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural communication and conveying Chinese cultural characteristics.In July 2022,the author provided a Chinese-English escort interpreting for a foreign tourist in Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Scenic Spot,interpreting the tour guide’s introduction speech and explaining the operating principles of water conservancy,cultural characters and historical allusions encountered during the visit.This report,taking the author’s interpreting practice as the material,guided by the Interpretive Theory,through the case study,summarizes the interpreting strategies used by the author in the interpreting practice when encountering cultural characteristics and differences.Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,the author followed the triangular model,strieved to faithfully convey the essence of the original text while also demonstrating traditional Chinese culture and socialist values with Chinese characteristics related to the Dujiangyan trip.By comprehending the source language text and de-verbalization,the author effectively expressed these ideas in a way that would be easily understood by the target language users.The author carried out the three phases of Interpretive Theory,and adopted methods such as cognitive complement,information chunking and explanation.Through this report,the author hopes to summarize the experience and methods of escort interpreting,to provide reference for study and research of tourism escort interpreting,and to explore the approach of better explain and promote the culture with Chinese characteristics in Chinese-English interpreting.
