English songs,especially nursery rhymes,are characteristic of livey rhythm,simple melodies and catchy lyrics,all of which match well primary school children’s psychological traits and cognition levels,hence their popularity among school children.In the previous several rounds of primary school English textbooks reedition,it can be found out that since English songs were first adopted as teaching materials,their proportions have been on the increase,gaining more and more significance in primary English teaching.Nevertheless,according to on-site observations,English song teaching implementation is far from satisfying to achieve its anticipated goals.Thus,it is of great necessity to study the obstacles encountered and the reasons behind them in current English song teaching and put forward corresponding solutions to bolster teaching efficiency.To be more specific,basic teaching philosophy should be the starting point,based on which,an analysis from the four perspectives of song teaching comprehension,design,implementation and evaluation is necessary on the status quo,existing problems and their reasons in primary school English teaching by means of on-site observation,textual analysis and interviews.Based on these preliminary studies,plausible suggestions are put forward to give song teaching a better play in English teaching.After a survey on the status quo of primary school English song teaching,defects identified include primary school teachers’ unawareness of the importance of English song teaching,lack of proper courses design,undiversified study strategies of students and unsatisfying evaluations of primary school English song teaching and the main reasons behind lie in teachers’ insufficient in-depth study and understanding of the curriculum criterion,teachers’ low musical literacy,English songs not being included in the examination content,students’ lack of scientific and effective guidance in the use of learning strategies,and the design of teaching evaluation not being systematic and comprehensive.Based on the mentioned-above analysis,in order to improve the English song teaching in primary school teaching,the writer has put forward a series of suggestions including strengthening teachers’ understanding of the new curriculum criterion,improving primary school English teachers’ cognition of classroom English song teaching,improving primary school English teachers’ musical literacy;clarifying the teaching goal design of English songs,effectively tapping the teaching resources of English songs,enhancing the in-depth excavation of the existing resources of teaching materials,enriching the application of classroom teaching mode,optimizing the integration of English songs in primary school English classroom into teaching design,and establishing a supporting teaching evaluation system. |
