This report is a translation practice based on the main body of a paper themed by epidemiological studies and future treatment,which was published in the journal called International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents in June 2020.And it is the summary of theory and practice.The paper is called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2(SARS-Co V-2): A Global Pandemic and Treatment Strategies,which introduces COVID-19 from its origin and spread,its symptoms and diagnosis,its transmission methods and pathogenesis and clinical manifestation;and it gives some insights on its future treatment.Guided by Peter Newmark’s Communication Translation,this report mainly discusses E-C translation techniques of academic medical papers from lexical and syntactic aspects.As an informative text,this medical paper is characterized by abundant medical vocabularies and long and complex sentences.Under communication translation,the translation should be smooth,natural,idiomatic and easy to understand.As a result,literal translation,free translation and conventional translation are applied at lexical level.Through the use of more similar expressions and words,the target language becomes compliant and accurate.While at the syntactic level,division,combination,voice shift,subject addition,linear translation and restructuring are employed to get rid of the chains of the source text,making the target language smoother,more concise and in line with the language customs and functioning well its aim of information conveyance.
