Current research has found that procrastination is a common phenomenon among middle school students, especially academic procrastination during the learning process, which deeply affects the quality and efficiency of students’ learning. Therefore,it is necessary to explore ways to alleviate it.And anticipatory imagination is an effective way to improve individual procrastination. However, previous studies only considered the impact of personal future imagination on procrastination, without considering the role of social environment.Social comparison theory believes that when individuals are in the social environment, people will actively participate in the vortex of comparison with others, and social comparison will affect individual behavior and decision-making.For middle school students, good social comparison is also beneficial for learning engagement. So the purpose of this study is to explore the impact of future situational thinking on academic procrastination in social comparison contexts.Study 1 develop a future situational thinking questionnaire suitable for junior high school students.Recruit 30 junior high school students online and conduct semi structured interviews. After collecting the interview data, the initial version of the questionnaire was compiled in accordance with the three-level coding procedure.Based on the data analysis results, the questionnaire was deleted and rectified to obtain a formal version. In order to verify the reliability of the formal version of the questionnaire, the questionnaire was released, and the results showed that it can be used as a further testing tool.Study 2 included Xu Xiaofei’s "Social Comparison Measurement Questionnaire for Middle School Students",Zuo Yanmei’s "Academic Procrastination Questionnaire for Middle School Students",and the self-developed "Future Situational Thinking Questionnaire for Middle School Students" among junior high school students. The results show that "plot construction","emotional value","environmental impact",and "delayed gratification" can significantly negatively affect academic procrastination. The stronger future situational thinking, the weaker the level of academic procrastination.Further exploring the regulatory role of social comparison in the impact of future situational thinking on academic procrastination, the results showed that upward comparison and improved comparison strengthened the impact of future situational thinking on academic procrastination, while downward comparison and derogatory comparison weakened the impact of future situational thinking on academic procrastination.Based on the findings of the study, suggestions were made to alleviate academic procrastination among junior high school students from the perspectives of teachers, students, and schools.
