| Romantic relationship has been an important topic that young people have been eager to explore since ancient times, and today’s college students are no exception. In now times, romantic relationship is often a crucial aspect of college life.In the process of exploring romantic relationships, college students also gradually experience the process of separation from their families of origin, and the smoothness of this transition phase depends largely on the level of individual self-differentiation.However,selfdifferentiation is rooted in the family of origin, formed earlier, and has relative stability.Self-compassion is an area of research that has received much attention at home and abroad, and the role of self-compassion in interpersonal relationships in particular is worth exploring. Therefore, this study tries to explore the possible mechanism of its role between self-differentiation and romantic relationship satisfaction among college students from the perspective of self-compassion;and attempts to organize online group activities to demonstrate their effect on self-compassion and romantic relationship satisfaction among students in universities.Study 1 provides a quantitative understanding of the overall situation and interrelationships among self-differentiation,self-compassion,and romantic relationship satisfaction among 360 college students. The results exhibits that(1)there exists a significant positive relationship between self-differentiation,self-compassion,and romantic relationship satisfaction for the college students(2)self-compassion fully mediated the relationship between self-differentiation and romantic relationship satisfaction.Study 2 recruited a total of 17 subjects with low scores of self-differentiation and romantic relationship satisfaction. They were then divided into an experimental group(n=8)and a control group(n=9),in which the experimental group underwent a six-week continuous self-compassion group intervention and a follow-up interview, and the control group did not do the intervention. The results of the intervention showed that the online self-compassion group intervention could significantly increase the level of self-compassion and romantic relationship satisfaction for students in universities. In summary, this study analyzed self-differentiation,self-compassion,and romantic relationship satisfaction among college students, explored the relationships and mechanisms of action among the three variables, and provided new directions for the practical application of self-compassion and ways to improve intimacy among college students. |
