Adolescents and post-adolescence, undergraduate who want to achieve personal perfection and independence, establish intimacy besides their family, and develop social-emotional, need a process of their original family separation or division psychologically to find a balance between family attachment and self-independent. This is called self-differentiation. Self-differentiation is the skill that a person can achieve to distinguish thinking and feeling. Person with high level of self-differentiation also can keep intimacy with important others and be independent at the same time. Self-differentiation is considered with two different aspect, the intrapsychic and interpersonally. College students’ self-differentiation can be a predictable factor when their mind health is considered. As far as there is little research which focus on how to improve the level of self-differentiation, this study surveyed262college students from three universities participated in study1to find out the general state of college student’s self-differentiation and enrolled12college student with low level of self-differentiation who were divided into two different groups equally and conduct group counseling to one group and compare there self-differentiation with the group with no counseling to measure the influence of group counseling. The study makes the following results:1. Through comparing gender difference, it is showed that the score Emotional Cutoff in female is higher than that in female significantly.2. The self-differentiation has a significant negative correlation with interpersonal problems. The higher level of self-differentiation people have, the less interpersonal problems.3. The group counseling in the view of family therapy can improve the level of self-differentiation, but this positive influence doesn’t last for a long time.4. IIP-48can be used estimate the effect of group counseling in self-differentiation.
