Homework is the commonest activity in teaching and can help teachers understand students’ recent mastery of knowledge,as well as help students consolidate what they have learned and improve their language skills.For a long time,China’s high school English teaching has adopted a text-based teaching method,and there is a lack of association in theme between lessons.This results in students lacking the necessary subject context when learning English.For man reasons,teachers generally fail to reflect on the effectiveness of current English assignments.In order to solve these problems,this paper refers to the core literacy concepts of English subjects in The Curriculum Standards for High School English,and attempts to test the effectiveness of unit assignments based on subject context through questionnaire surveys,personal interviews,case studies and considers unit assignment design strategies.This study lasts one semester and focuses on students from Class Five and Thirteen,Senior One,Shanghai Jianping High School.It is found that high school English unit assignments based on subject context can improve classroom efficiency,promote students’ independent learning,and improve students’ knowledge skills,quality of thinking,and cultural literacy.Meanwhile,the study also briefs some effective teaching strategies: according to the core literacy of English subjects,teachers can integrate the in-class and extracurricular learning resources when designing unit assignments;set up layered assignments according to the development of students’ multiple intelligences;on this basis,establish a school-based assignment library and use the Internet to assess the assignments;enrich the form of assignment.Through interview and statistics analysis,it is proved that this assignment can efficiently improve students’ ability in English and make the class vigorous. |
