The cultivation of students’ core competences has become a new idea and goal to promote the Curriculum and Teaching Reform of Basic Education in our country.Deep learning is not only a method of learning,but also a meaningful process where students’ core competences are well-cultivated and all-round development promoted.In the integration of deep learning and high school English teaching,to carry out holistic unit teaching contributes to cultivating students’ high-level thinking ability and realize the educational value of English discipline.There are very few studies in China that deeply explore the combination of deep learning and holistic unit teaching.Researches which explore students’ performance of deep learning are scarce.Based on Bloom’s cognitive theory,holism learning theory,this study attempts to explore the intrinsic connection between deep learning and holistic unit teaching from both theoretical and practical level,so as to realize the organic combination of the two.In this study,56 senior two students from High School Affiliated to Qinghai Normal Universty in Xining were selected as participants.This study adopts the methods of questionnaire survey,class observation and test to explore the following three questions:(1)How does English holistic unit teaching based on deep learning promote learning engagement of students?(2)What deep learning strategies could students obtain after this study?(3)What are the effects of English holistic unit teaching based on deep learning on students’ grades?The results of the study show that:(1)Teaching method in this research promotes students’ learning engagement;(2)Students have a preliminary understanding of deep learning strategies,but still need to be further applied in the future learning;(3)Students’ grades are improved significantly,especially in reading comprehension.This study not only enrich the research on deep learning and holistic unit teaching,but also provides useful teaching suggestions for high school English teachers to help students improve the current situation of shallow learning,and also helped students to understand how to realize deep learning more effectively.However,there are some limitations in this study,such as small samples and short experimental time,and suggestions for future researches are given. |
