Action Research On Unit Integrity Instruction In Senior High School English Teaching Towards Deep Learning

With the continuous promotion of the new curriculum reform,deep learning has become more and more popular among researchers and front-line teachers.And how to cultivate students’ deep learning ability in teaching has become a hot spot in education.Deep learning takes the cultivation of students’ core literacy as the fundamental pursuit,and attaches importance to integration,relevance and development of learning.Research on foreign language classroom teaching has shown that unit integrity instruction is an important way to promote deep learning.However,there are still many problems in senior high school English classroom teaching.Many teachers only focus on the enrollment rate and split the teaching of English listening,speaking,reading and writing,which leads to the fragmentation and surface learning of students.This study closely follows the hot topic of English curriculum reform,and conducts research and practice on integrated teaching of the unit with the aim of promoting students’ deep learning,so as to gradually meet the requirements of the new curriculum.Based on the above background,this study conducted a five-month action research in a middle school in Liaocheng City,Shandong Province by using the methods of questionnaire,interview,classroom observation and test,to explore how to promote students’ deep learning with unit integrated teaching.The subjects were 57 senior one students.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)What is the current situation of students’ deep learning in senior high school English teaching?(2)How does the unit integrity instruction affect the depth of students’ English learning process?(3)How does the unit integrity instruction affect the depth of students’ English learning results?In the first round of action research,the teacher found that students’ critical thinking was poor in teaching.After putting forward hypotheses,the teacher investigated the current situation of deep learning.According to the survey results,the teacher formulated and implemented plans,constructed the overall teaching model of the unit and practiced typical lesson examples.And finally,the teacher made reflection and summary.In the second round of action research,the teacher modified the unit integrity instruction mode of the unit according to the problems of the first round of action research,and then applied it to the classroom again,and finally made reflection and summary.The evaluation on students’ English deep learning process is from the perspective of students’ classroom participation while the evaluation on students’ English deep learning outcomes is from the comparison of pre-test and post test results of reading comprehension.The researcher collected and sorted out the questionnaire data and interview results with the help of SPSS24.0 data statistical tools to analyze the obtained data and draw the following research findings:(1)At present,the deep learning of senior high school students is at the lower middle level.(2)Unit integrity instruction plays a positive role in promoting the depth of students’ English learning process and learning results.According to the above findings,this study puts forward some pedagogical suggestions for senior high school English teachers on how to promote students’ deep learning:(1)Teachers should enhance unit awareness and pay attention to the overall design of unit teaching objectives.(2)Pay attention to the thematic meaning and core content of English teaching.(3)The problem chain teaching method that close to the situation should be used to promote the development of students’ deep learning ability.
